How to Create a Budget
▼
To start your draft budget, list all of your income sources against your expenses and try to calculate per calendar month. It helps to examine a few months’ bank statements, but also any cash withdrawals. If you make a lot of cash withdrawals, keep a short diary of what you spend the cash on so you know what to record.
Variable income
- If your income changes, try to use an average amount.
- If you have basic pay and overtime, record basic pay and overtime separately (as an average).
- Do the same with any bonus or commission.
Income paid quarterly / every 4 weeks / weekly
- Some benefits are paid every 4 weeks and need converting to per calendar month.
- This is important so your income and outgoings are compared like-for-like.
